Our technical staff are exceptionally well-qualified for a wide range of signal processing and scientific computing applications.
Prototypes don't have to be eye-wateringly expensive. Welkin Sciences offers cost-effective hardware platforms for prototype and low-volume manufacturing.
We can tailor a unique combination of specialized computing components (GPUs, FPGAs, etc.) for specific applications. Our current DSP solutions include our Digital IF products, ionospheric fading channel simulators, and electronic countermeasures (ECM) simulators.
Yes! Typically, Welkin Sciences fits the workstation components into a 3U, 4U, or 5U rackmount chassis, but our low-latency, high-bandwidth digital interfaces allow massive chassis-to-chassis scalability.
Yes, we can design custom-printed circuit boards to address unique requirements, or we can integrate third party custom circuit boards into our system designs.
Our specialized test systems emulate extreme wartime environments to ensure your systems can withstand any threat.
Our expertise began with testing SATCOM links. We've honed our SATCOM testing abilities through decades of focused R&D and have converted that research into products that transport SATCOM signals over digital networks.
Our MASS, CoLTS-LC, and CoLTS-AE products test SATCOM communication links and have been used on a variety of systems, including Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF), Defense Support Program (DSP), Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS), and Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS).
Welkin Sciences supports strategic SATCOM programs through simulation of their systems under wartime and natural disruptions.
Our Contested Environment simulators support the Verification & Validation (V&V) requirements of the DoD SATCOM community. We design, manufacture, and deliver hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL or HIL) simulators for testing our clients' Anti-Scintillation (AS) and Anti-Jamming (AJ) specifications.
Over the years, we have deployed HWIL nuclear scintillation simulators for Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS), Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF), and Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS). Our newest Contested Environment simulator verifies a system's ability to operate in a jamming environment. Our systems are also used for training SATCOM operators, strengthening the warfighter's readiness and ability to detect contested communications conditions.
“Contested environments” refers to a variety of disruptions, whether natural or man-made. Scintillation and jamming are normally wartime environments, though scintillation can also result from natural causes, such as a coronal mass ejection. Both scintillation and jamming threaten critical communication lines, and testing SATCOM systems against such threats is critical.
Welkin Sciences has refined its R&D capabilities through DoD’s SBIR/STTR program
After receipt of a $150K Phase I award, Welkin Sciences designs solutions to address the specific requirements and needs of the customer, which generally takes no more than 6 months. Following that, a $1M Phase II award provides a 2-year period for Welkin Sciences to build a prototype (typically on a hardware platform) to prove the Phase 1 solution. Under Phase III, DoD funds the commercialization of that prototype into a product.
Welkin Sciences has been awarded more than 30 Phase I and Phase II prime contracts from a variety of DoD agencies. We have a high conversation rate from Phase I to Phase II awards, and we have received several Phase III awards to commercialize our research. This resulted in our Digital IF products, which are now used for both Government and commercial applications. As of February 2021, Welkin Sciences is in the top 10% of SBIR award recipients in terms of commercialization rate.
Unique projects require unique solutions. If our product isn’t 100% the right fit for you, we’ll work with you to adapt it to your specifications.
Our product architectures are modular and utilize software/firmware implementations providing convenient building blocks to develop customized products for your specific application.
Our seasoned engineers listen to your requirements, collaborate with you on the best implementation, and support your project at an affordable rate.
Often one of our existing products will be a close match for a customer’s needs, but won’t meet every requirement. In many cases, making a small change to software or firmware can solve the problem, saving the customer the cost of developing an entirely new solution to address the issue.
Welkin Sciences offers simulation-aided analysis capabilities as well test system design and development. Our engineers have expertise in adaptive beam forming to mitigate adversarial jammers.
